Cinders with just that little bit extra, another fun script penned by Alan P. Frayn. Some fast well delivered corn, colourful characters, plenty of audience participation especially towards the front rows, near enough for beams of light and squirts from various sized water pistols. Wonderful interaction with front row Fred to whom Ugly Sister Grizelda took a definite shine to! Well known lively melodies were accompanied by Mary Barnes, piano, and David Fenner on the drums. Excellent back drops and sets created by Ian Graham and assistants with good finishing touches, Hardcastle Hall in particular together with woodland complete with stream and a most attractive pink ballroom. The transformation was executed superbly and the static carriage in the aisle was swiftly hitched to Hagan the Horse, gently walked out by Cinders to the turning on of fairy lights. Vicki Connoley, Fairy Godmother appeared in puffs of smoke making dreams come true. Costuming was sumptuous, bright and included several animals. Newcomer Mark Richardson as Buttons soon won us over to join his gang, Clive Moores played penniless Baron with new Wife Hatty elegantly played by Ann Darby. Outrageously dressed Ugly Sisters Nick Jeal and Richard Pierce worked hard we enjoyed their roles. Harriet Berwick sparkled as Cinders whilst Ray and Christine Hodges performed comedy sketches. Two initiative moments from Jackie’s direction was the hunting scene using hobby horses and ballroom waltz with beautifully made male dummies as partners.
