This is a classic pantomime but as usual St Herbert’s pick up to date current pop and Musical Theatre songs to make it their own along with some modern classics, The cast sing to backing tracks so no live music but this doesn’t detract from the performances.
The sets, homemade, were very fitting with the scenes and very creative. Props worked well and the costumes were lovely. The lighting and sound plot were faultless and lighting was very complimentary to the show.
The show moved at a good pace and the ensemble cast worked hard in their roles. Some of the younger members can learn a lot from the more experienced members of the society who smile and maintain character whenever they are on stage.
Meera Gohil made a lovely Fairy Godmother with great delivery of lines and fabulous attitude.
Nathan Simpson was a lovely Prince Charming. Good looking, nice vocals added to a clear delivery of lines he fitted the role perfectly.
Tony Mooney was great as Old King Cole, delivering funny lines in a very dry manner which suited the character well,
Dolche and Gabbana were really mean and really ugly but brilliantly portrayed by Clare Oddie and Chris Addington. Much hilarity ensued when these two were on the stage.with the children.
Cinderella was beautifully portrayed by Lauren Copp with gorgeous vocals, great timing and a real rapport with the audience.
Tony Cenci and Carole Griffiths brilliantly portrayed Buttons and Baroness Hardup respectively. Their scenes together were fabulous and both have them had perfect comedy timing including ad libbing and interaction with the audience. A great comedy duo.
This was a great comic production with many nice performances thrown in. A great way to start the festive period.
