Good costumes and scenery together with some strong performances from the cast all combined to produce a pantomime to delight the audience. Once the audience got involved then they responded heartily to the characters and situations.

Credit must be given to Brett Dewsbury (Buttons) as he worked hard to get the audience started but it payed off in the end. He was a cheeky, chirpy chap who worked well with the delightful Samantha Betteridge (Cinderella). Julie Hunter (Fairy Godmother) delivered all her rhyming lines with such clarity that audience were well informed about the progress of the story. Vicky Evans (Prince Charming) and Lauren Barry (Dandini) were a good combination as the ‘royals’ dissatisfied with their respective roles. This situation provided much humour involving the two ugly sisters Jonathan Edwards (Mona) and Linda Askew (Grizelda). These two also worked the audience well and were very funny. It is difficult to boo Jamie Jones (The Baroness) as he is such a glamorous dame with a range of amazing outfits that he is a particularly likeable character. However, he made sure that he encouraged the audience by being very unkind to Cinderella. An important character in the Cinderella story is her father Baron Hardup and this was in the very capable hands of Brian Washington.

There were some very strong singing performances throughout by all the principals and also the chorus. A particular treat for the audience was the appearance of Goliath the Shetland pony pulling Cinderella’s coach to close Act 1. He stood very patiently in the middle of the stage as though he was a very seasoned performer. A very nice touch! They were supported very sympathetically by the Cinderella Orchestra. Well done to all concerned!
