Longton Players were performing this traditional Pantomime written by Alan Frayne over a number of days and were delighted by the audience’s reactions. There was a very good atmosphere appreciated by all.
James Miley, Director had obviously worked tirelessly to blend together both adults and children who played various roles including, villagers and Palace Guards.
The role of chaperones in Pantomime is so important where children are involved, not only with costume changes but also ensuring they are available in the wings when the young ones are required for the next scene.
I am always impressed when there is a live music accompaniment rather than ‘ piped ‘ music and Bronwen Bracegirdle, Musical Director, again excelled.
There was a strong cast who worked well together and all on stage appeared to be enjoying the experience.
George Westwood as Buttons bounced onto the stage and immediately built up a good rapport with the audience who looked forward to his every appearance. Daniel Haresnape as Gertrude and Geoff Blamire as Grizelda were hilarious as the Ugly Sisters. I particularly enjoyed Geoff’s involvement with a particular member of the audience which continued throughout all the evening. Both ‘Sisters’ ensured that the pace continued at just the correct tempo.
Liz Hobin as Bodget and Joan Miller as Leggett, two builders, used all their experience as an excellent ‘ double act ‘, showing good comic timing. Josephine Turner played her traditional role as Prince Charming with flair and panache and together with Natalie Aitchison as Dandini they interacted well with good diction and projection.
Costumes, enhanced by good lighting, were colourful and just right for this particular genre.
There was a great deal of successful audience participation, so important with Pantomime where the age range is so varied.
All the Production team have combined well to provide a very enjoyable evening. Thank you for your warm welcome to my wife and myself. We look forward to our next visit to this talented company.
