A dreary cold night outside, but the warmth and community spirit inside St Nicholas Church Hall shone through to make this a most enjoyable panto. With a cast of over thirty, aging from the very young to the more mature, there were good performances throughout.
Emma Tocker-Booth linked the show nicely as a `Super Woman` Fairy Wonder, Chloe Hubbard was a personable Buttons, with her own fan club Team Buttons. Over the top was the pairing of loud and brash Lily Gornall and Becky Smith as Alexa and Cortana, the sisters. Excellent portrayals by Davina Caborn as the evil Baroness Upside-Downturn, and Pete Harrison as her downtrodden husband, Baron Downturn. Helen Molloy and Heather Slonimski , as the baddies Cut and Paste, were a good foil and played off each other most effectively.
Clara Roberts as Cinderella, and Gina Ditheridge as Prince Felix, provided a very fleeting love interest. Adding to the fun were Helen Roebuck, as the Mayoress, Mike Robuck as the Herald, Max Wilde as Dandini, and Becci Cogley and Ric Smith as the King and Queen. A special mention to Polly Harrison, Isla Powell and Ellie Murphy who played the Abbey Mice, their spoken words were clear and they sang with gusto, well done.
The transformation scene was a highlight, well executed and performed by a troupe of good dancers.
Along with an effective set and costumes, this was what panto is all about.
