As opposed to the traditional panto this one was described in the programme intriguingly as steampunk. The unusual setting full of cogs and wheels proved to be the perfect backdrop for the colourful but unusual choice of chorus costumes topped off with goggles!! Then we were off to a lively start with the ensemble singing and moving to “Dancing In The Street”. There were two chorus groups and we saw Group 2 who worked hard from the very youngest to the oldest not just performing but changing set too. Craig Keable was a suitably endearing Buttons who paved the way perfectly for the delightfully named Haemorrhoid and Verruca. These Ugly Sisters played respectively by Louise Cumming and Iona Allan certainly kept the fun going though sometimes their adlibbing was a little hard to follow. They were ably supported by David Mitchell as the nasty Stepmother and Dean Tough as Baron Hardup. Cinderella was charmingly played by Hannah Pinner whose transformation for the ball was impressive. She was partnered beautifully by Terri Roberts as her Prince Charming while Heather Paterson’s Dandini was confident and convincing.  A funky fairy godmother, Lisa Callendar certainly made the magic happen and the adult chorus covered all the cameo roles well. Last but not least who could fail to love Dobbin (Rhoda Burke-front end) and Nicola Stewart (the back). An entertaining production with a great choice of upbeat and up to date songs with thoughtful direction and fun choreography. Well done FMS!
