From the car park at Elgin Town Hall I followed a trail of small, excited princesses to see Cinderella! The show got off to a good start thanks to an excellent band led by Brian Smith getting us into the Christmas spirit. The curtains swept aside to reveal a superbly choreographed chorus of villagers. The costumes were well conceived. The sets looked good and the transformation scene was cleverly done. Instead of a hired in script, this year it was written by the director Amanda Craib. All the main elements of the traditional panto were there, plus some extra characters i.e. two policemen called Target and Fritz (Lee Whitley and Mawgan Lean) providing the comedy. The two Ugly Sisters Feta and Gorgonzola (Ian Glover and Ben Mortimer) had the audience laughing and were particularly good attacking two hapless men in the audience! Cinderella was given a spirited performance by Bryony Munro. Buttons (Dom Myers) engaged the children well and gave a good performance. Nikky Homewood’s Fairy Godmother won all our hearts. Special mention goes to Adrienne Lean as the Wicked Stepmother, Madame Boursin. Her stage presence, diction and overall professionalism shone through. Well done to all on and off stage.
