Cinderella is probably one of my favourite pantomimes and this production directed by Judy Megarry did not disappoint, full of fun, laughter, great characterisation and staging.

The company numbers were all well sang and it was lovely to see members of PODYs included in the company adding well to the choreography in each piece. The audience warmed instantly to all the characters, none more so than Buttons (Steve Miller) with charismatic charm who engaged at once with his audience and throughout the show. Cinderella herself (Loren Howland) was perfectly cast, every bit what you hope for in ‘Cinders’, a delightful performance, singing one of the highlight numbers ‘On My Own’ beautifully.

Baron Hardup (Dave Hemming) was just right as the poor but loving father, a superb foil for and matched by the evil Baroness (Susan Perry), equally impressive. The Prince (Peter Spence) and Dandini (Matt Owens) worked well together ‘wherever they go’ swopping roles as they went and the Fairy Godmother (Lindsey Kirby) provided many of the links between scenes with great aplomb and singing another highlight ‘Somewhere Out There’. But the greatest laughs were reserved for the Ugly Sisters Grizelda (Matt Tebbatt) and Mona (Paul Tapley) who with the Baroness we loved to hate, made life unbearable for poor Cinders.

There were some great touches throughout the production, from the pit singers adding depth to some of the numbers, to the back projection replacing some of the more traditional stage cloths and an impressive coach to take Cinders to the ball. The orchestra were well balanced and never overpowered, with together an excellent sound level overall. The lighting was effective and the costumes were impressive; the opening number in the village, The Royal Hunt and the Royal Ballroom all highlights.

The script was excellent and delivered at a good pace. I understand the Director read 4 other scripts before choosing this one, a NODA pantomime script! The Company deserved the applause they received for what was a great night out. Thank you for the opportunity to share it.
