This production was held in a very friendly village hall setting. The stage is very small but the group performed admirably with good lights, scenery and music. A special mention must be made for costumes as they were of a high standard. The diction of most of the characters was extremely good, but sometimes they did not raise their voices enough during the musical numbers.
One interesting concept of this production was the use of four fairies who all worked together and wore very glitzy outfits. It was noted that there were a large number of younger people in this production but it was obvious to the audience that they all enjoyed themselves. The scenery changes for such a small stage were very slick.
My only fault in the first half was that the very important transformation scene came to a very abrupt end. The slipper scene was carefully directed and led to the normal satisfactory conclusion. The musical numbers in the second half were played with more intensity than those in the first half.
It was nice to see so many younger people being given opportunities with named parts. All in all a very pleasant evening.
