People living in Pateley Bridge and the surrounding villages are so lucky to have such a high quality pantomime in their area. What a polished performance, it was like unwrapping a brand new Christmas present.
From the opening number I couldn't help being impressed by the very high standards. The costumes were impeccable with great attention given to accessories and colour schemes.
The sets were superb with film projections on the curtains whilst scenes were being changed, much more interesting than a blank backcloth.
The cast were equally impressive, there was not a weak link amongst them. The two Ugly Sisters, Splenectomy (Nevin Ward) and Nephrectomy (Peter Buller) worked so well together and were totally relaxed in their roles. Cinderella (Brenna Smith) was lovely to look at and delightful to listen to.. She was partnered by a very 'handsome' Prince (Mia Hirst) and they sang beautifully together. A cheeky Dandini (Coni Harpham) and an appealing Buttons (Jaxom Smith) ably supported them. It was good to see a 'female ' comedy duo and Carol Bailey and Debbie Forsyth as the Brokers Men were very amusing. There was a very strong supporting cast and the children in the show were a delight to watch. I must give a mention to Garry, he was simply amazing, I hope that he gets a bigger part next time.
There were some lovely songs throughout the show and the children in the audience were very excited at the more well-known ones.
This was an excellent show with well thought out and well rehearsed comedy routines. There were some good original ideas such as a lovely life-size mouse (Heather Appleton) and a Bad Fairy (Rachel Smith) as well as a Good Fairy (Joyce Liggins).
There were plenty of opportunities for the audience to shout, sing and dance too and everyone went home on a high. Sadly the Good Fairy's magic had not worked on the weather in Pateley Bridge and it was pouring down when we got outside. Oh to live in Panto Land.
