This is the annual pantomime in the village hall that has been performed to full houses for many years and I guess that the cast either knew or were related to most of the audience which gave a real pantomime atmosphere. The mostly young but talented cast performed well on the restrictive size of the stage and the musical numbers were well executed. Prince Charming (Alex Weaver) and Dandini ( Lucy Markwick) worked well together and Cinderella (Bryony Kirby) were appropriately cast, but the star of the evening for me was Buttons (Kathryn Peacock) - what a confident young performer, working every line of humour and making a really good connection with the audience. The diction of the whole cast was first class and the scenery well designed. I particularly liked the forest. The ugly sisters brought real pantomime comedy to the fore and made the most of the limited space on the stage. Cinderella's coach was expertly designed and when viewed in its full glory resembled every little girl's idea of a sparkly fairy tale coach. The clock, showing the passage of time, positioned above the prosenium arch was a good idea and allowed for extra space. The audience joined in with enthusiasm and appeared to love every minute and surely this is what pantomime is all about. Finally, thank you for your warm and friendly welcome on arrival, this always makes a good start to the evening. Congratulations to you all.
