The Lowestoft Players present this ‘extra Christmas gift’ each year and it sells out to their faithful audiences who rightly see this show as the start of their ‘run in’ to Christmas. The mix of nostalgia, comedy, songs old and new, ballet, traditional perhaps old fashioned, readings and carols; enough variety to satisfy the whole family with a setting to create a real seasonal feel make this an event much looked forward too attracting larger audiences year on year. It’s a must for those who cherish the warm nostalgic sense of Christmas. A huge richly decorated tree adorns one side of the stage and the lighting plot is such that each act runs smoothly into the next with exceptional creative style.
The ‘Spectacular’ is not a show of individuals, it is a real team effort with no expense spared. Costumes are lavish and there is no shortage of glamour with Players showgirls and younger dancers from the Louise Elizabeth School of Dance providing a mixture of classical ballet with ‘Snow Flakes’ and ‘Unchained Melody’ to 'Pop Goes Christmas' featuring the whole company.
Comedy is also a mixture of old and new with some familiar favourites and some of the best from Players Panto’s, some perhaps are a trifle ‘old hat’, and some inspired, especially the Players version of ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’ all clearly enjoyed by the receptive audiences. All this rounded off with the grand finale ‘Home for Christmas’ leaving audiences smiling and with that feeling that Christmas does indeed start here. Its an additional offering which has become a local favourite and early booking is advised as word spreads each year, that in the face of other pre Christmas shows...The Players truly deliver something ‘Spectacular...Long may it continue. We look forward to their Panto, Dick Whittington and The Pirate adventure, at the end of January at the Marina Theatre.
