This society performed this year in aid of the charity Mind for the one off concert. The compere was Mirriam Lawton who informed us between numbers of facts and funny stories.
The programme was varied with songs by Diggle School choir, some by the adult society choir and some well known Christmas carols where the audience joined in.
The Orchestra performed three numbers which I loved with two Strauss compositions and L’Arlesienne Minuet and Farandole.
I always love the carols where we all stand to sing and this year the fantastic choices of O come, All Ye Faithful, Unto Us Is Born a Son, Once in Royal David’s City, The First Nowell and Hark the Herald Angels Sing sounded lovely.
The children from Diggle School choir directed by Kate Wilson sang beautifully starting with This Christmas Tree followed by Christmas is Coming and then Holly lJolly Christmas which had the audience transfixed by voices and actions. The choir are so beautifully behaved and join in the final number from the floor which adds to the Christmassy feel of this evening.
The Choir and Orchestra together sounded amazing. The Orchestra who only meet that day never drown the voices under the expert baton of Harry Butterworth. I loved “And the Glory of the Lord”, “Love Came Down at Christmas” and “Still, Still, Still” but every number sounded stunning.
I had a wonderful evening and this starts the wonderful festive period for me. Thank you all for such a lovely evening.
