Saddleworth Musical Society Christmas Concert is a personal highlight in my yearly calendar. I thoroughly enjoy the drive there with all the christmas lights twinkling and I enjoy the inclusion of Diggle School Choir. I also enjoy being able to join in with some of the Christmas carols.

The choir this concert looked their striking selves in their concert blacks with constrasting corsages as they entered and took their places at the front of the church. The concert opened with" Once In Royal David's City",  which we were all invited to join in with. Next, the choir took over with a personal favourite of mine "Carol of the Bells" - a difficult carol from a musical view but the choir delivered it beautifully . There were various readings of poems and stories intermingled with the carols which added some lovely interest and pace. The choir started all the carols with fabulous attack on the first notes but at times this attack, confidence  and precision seemed to peter out a bit. "Good King Wenceslas" was delivered by the whole choir with great  gusto , "Star Carol" was a standout for me because I could feel the joy emanating from the choir as they all sang with personality and smiles- it really does make a difference. The concert finale right before the coffee and mince pies was "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" which was again delivered beautifully with some lovely diction throughout.

Well done, Saddleworth Musical Society on your Christmas Concert. I look forward to seeing you all again soon.
