If the audience didn’t feel in the festive mood before this concert they will have after. It was a very enjoyable evening of traditional songs, light-hearted links and a celebration of long service. To a lively accompaniment on the piano the assembled company rendered familiar and much-loved Christmas classic songs as an ensemble (early on setting the mood with a delightfully anarchic The twelve days of Christmas) interspersed with solos from (among others) Mike Douglas (Chestnuts Roasting), Kathryn Sabourn (Gesu Bambino)and Peter Boyd (Joseph’s lullaby); all hosted by Mike Douglas and his cracker-full of jokes and funny stories and under the impressive musical direction of Susan Sabourn. In the interval long service awards were presented to an impressive number of members of this active society
Congratulations to the company for the high entertainment value of the evening, for all the hard work that had obviously gone into the production, and for the palpable enthusiasm for their art.
