“Gluttons for punishment” is the phrase that comes to mind! Having just finished staging their annual big show at the beginning of this December month, the Society was again at “all systems go” to bring this Christmas treat to their devoted followers. This was the second of two carol concerts being performed by the company and I attended the one in St Margaret’s Church in Barnhill, Dundee, which was packed with enthusiastic people joining together with the society in their Christmas celebration in song. With a large Christmas tree, bedecked with red glistening lights behind them forming a backcloth, the company presented all the seasonal Christmas carols, old and new, all sung out with great enthusiasm by the Society, accompanied by Musical Director Don Grieve on the church organ. One highlight was the Christmas Lullaby. Adding to the proceedings and, with a great sound, was Dundee Instrumental Band, who added their talent to the evening’s success. Some unfamiliar melodies were also to the fore but they only enhanced the evening’s proceedings. All in all, it was all a jolly festive night of music and song and, as we left, we were certainly filled with the Christmas spirit!
