This Fantasmagorical musical is centred around eccentric inventor Caractacus Potts who, with the help of his children Jeremy and Jemima, set to restore an old European Grand Prix racing car aptly named Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, prompted by the concerning sound from its engine. With magical powers and charm, the car took centre stage taking us on this adventure. The roles of Jeremy and Jemima Potts were delightfully shared by Christopher Hanlon/Dyland Brian and Emily Traynor/Jessica Murphy throughout the run. Their quick-witted Dad, Caractacus Potts, was superbly presented with great energy, charm and warmth by Matthew Coulter who was joined by Ellis Little as his sweet love interest, Truly Scrumptious. Joe Totten brilliantly captured the character of the elderly and somewhat eccentric Grandpa Potts. Logan Byrne and Jenna Totten lightened up the stage in a wonderful double-act as Vulgarian’s, Boris and Goran. Jim McGhee and Angela Ball were also well paired playing off against each other as the Baron and Baroness Bomburst, who generated great amusement in their delivery of Chu-Chi Face and the Bombie Samba. Brian Shallow gave an excellent performance as the sinister ‘Child catcher’ and James Brown was well cast as the Toymaker/Mr Coggins. With strong principals and memorable songs including ‘The Roses of Success’, ‘Lovely, Lonely Man’, ‘Your Two’, Hush-a-bye Mountain’, ‘Me Ol’ Bamboo’, ‘Posh’ and of course the tile song ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’, the audience could not have failed but to have been drawn into this production. The singing, comedy and choreography from all on stage added to the spectacle. The production was of a high standard and a true example of real ‘Teamwork’, with the musical number aptly reprised by the Toymaker and entire company at the end of the show!
