This fantasmagorical production hit all the right notes at The New Alexandra Theatre. This Stephen Duckham production was a sure fire hit from beginning to end. Every time the Chitty theme music was played the audience clapped along. They also cheered when the car first came on stage. This production had everything going for it, a first class cast, wonderful costumes and a wonderful set with first rate lighting.
From the moment James Gordanifar as Caractacus Potts stepped out on the stage you knew you were in for a good night’s entertainment. His pairing with Carys Wilson as Truly Scrumptious really worked well and both had fine singing voices. They were joined by Daisy Green and Rui Greaves as Jemina and Jeremy Potts. Two to watch out for in the future. The family was completed by Nick Owenford as Grandpa Potts. I really enjoyed his rendition of POSH.
I also enjoyed the over the top performances from Alistair Jolliffe and Michelle Worthington as The Baron and Baroness Bomburst. Great Costumes. The Baroness hates children so she has a Child catcher who was played by Mitch Miller, fantastic make-up. Also in the land of Vulgaria is one of the Barons favourite subjects, especially at birthday time and that is the toy maker (Michael McCulley). Two stand out characters were the two spies, Boris and Gorgan (Jake Genders and Tim Reeves), how the audience laughed at them.
With the audience singing along to all the well-known songs in the production, it really was a feel good show.
