Grown women, heaving bosoms, camaraderie, frayed relationships, aching feet and blisters are inevitable, as five strong females from Cheshire speed walk their way to fundraising success in aid of Breast Cancer in the London Moonwalk.

Hilary (Ali Broughton), Siobhan (Ann Leake), Yvonne (Gemma Murtagh), Vicky (Fiona Jones) and Maggie (Beccy Gilmore) are attempting to walk 13 miles across the capital in record time in their decorated bras, light-up tutus and posh new trainers, but the 6th member of the team, a late substitute - Andrew (Alex Swan) – Vicky’s new boyfriend, doesn’t seem to meet the physical criteria !. Comic cameos from the OTT course marshals; Ethel (Jennifer Woods) and Madge (June Hurst) complete the accomplished cast of eight.

As the programme rightly says 'This play is a cross between a girl’s night out and a real mission to support a cause close to many hearts, with plenty of laughs (and a few tears) along the way'. Raising funds for Maggies and Cancer Care as they go, Priory Theatre’s production of Cheshire Cats is a wordy, laugh out loud comedy drama written by Gail Young. It contains a well-crafted script, nicely done individual poetic monologues, and a heart-rending moment at its very end - sympathetically well directed by Vicki Lockey.

It would be wrong to single out any of the performances, as all of the cast were good and their characterisations were equally so. The star of the show was definitely ‘the message’, which came through loud and clear. Get a ticket if you can !.

Congratulations to the whole Priory Team for another brilliant, poignant, emotional and enjoyable night’s entertainment. Thanks from Pauleen and myself for the invitation.
