Samantha Harvey and the Juniors

Firstly, I would like to congratulate all these Juniors who kept going for two performances on this the hottest day of the year, whilst we the audience were melting in the heat and fanning ourselves with the programmes.

The script, written especially for Deben Juniors by Samantha Harvey, gave equal opportunities for all the cast of 26  to shine, each with a few lines and sprinkled with many song and dance routines.  There were some charming cameos by all the main characters who lead the story well.  Not wishing to choose any outstanding performances in a very busy and active cast but special mention must go the to the multi role playing Grandma come Highwayman come Tina Turner strumming a tune out on her guitar. She was definitely the busiest girl in the cast.

There were lots of popular, well known songs including ‘Baggy Trousers’ and ‘You Can’t Stop The Beat’ and it was evident that these Juniors really enjoyed getting into their characters and singing the lyrics with appropriate actions.   It was well choreographed with the characters giving plenty of energy as they rotated around the stage, playing to all 3 sides of the audience with the stage set in the semi round.

All costumes looked good and especially the wooden toy soldiers and the small fairies all looked delightful.  There was also a very striking looking dragon in one scene and the different lighting changed the appearance of the stage area effectively.

The cast had obviously worked very hard and really entertained all their families in the audience, who were very appreciative.  Well done to Samantha, her cast and all the Deben members for their assistance in putting together this enjoyable show.
