The prolific and talented playwright Ray Cooney had written this very funny farce as a sequel to the highly acclaimed “ Run for Your Wife “.Farce is one of the most difficult genres to perform and congratulations must go to The Windmill Players for their excellent Production of this wordy and complex script.
My wife and I had the pleasure of seeing a Production of this play in London, some years ago, starring Russ Abbot and Eric Sykes and was thrilled to have Dinner with the two artists and the author afterwards. The repartee at this dinner was nearly as funny as the show itself.
The Director of this Production, Andy Figg has done a sterling job of understanding Ray Cooney’s intentions and communicating these to the very strong cast.
Congratulations to the Set Construction Team for a solid-looking and very effective set, which in this play, is the pivotal center of the action.
The play takes place in John and Mary Smith’s, Wimbledon home and at the same time in John and Barbara Smith’s, Sreatham home, which leads to the importance of good timing and a good rapport between the actors.
The play was very well cast with no weak links. Mark Edmonds was outstanding as Stanley Gardner. His timing was excellent and he made the most of his delightful character. It was very encouraging to see Abbie Gresty as Vicki Smith and Adam Walker as Gavin Smith, two young versatile actors who were gaining valuable experience, with a different genre of Theatre.
The Play proceeded at breakneck, speed by the talented actors, who ensured that the pace and action was correct, throughout. All on stage gave a lesson in great Diction and Projection. This kept the audience enthralled by the complex comings and goings of the families. Lighting and Sound effects were just what were required.
I could tell from the Audience reaction that this was another great success for this very talented companyThank you for your very warm welcome to my wife and myself and we wish you every success with your future Productions.
