Cats the musical tells the story of a tribe of cats called the Jellicles. It is based on Old Possums Book of Practical Cats by T.S.Eliot with music composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Cats opened in the West End in 1981, winning a host of awards and now 38 years on it has been released for amateur adults groups to perform.
This was a great musical interpretation of the show with very creative ideas from the director, all of which worked well.
The orchestra sounded just right and was a pleasure to listen to, and the sound was super I could hear every word.
Old Deuteronomy was played by Tim Jones who gave a perfect portrayal with outstanding vocals. Tasheka Coe playing Grizabella was very impressive, her singing of Memory gave you tingles down your spine.
There were some excellent performances – notably Craig Smith as Bustopher Jones, Harry Simkin Macavity, Nick Sullivan Gus The Theatre Cat , George Stuart Skimbleshanks and Daniel Summers as Munkustrap also Dan Smith as Rum Tum Tugger and Martyn Davies gave energetic and polished performances. Others who impressed included Molly Mann as Victoria, Ellie Quinn as Jemima , Fiona Winning Jellyorum and Rebbeca Thorne as Jennyanydots.
The predominately young cast gave their all and much more with pleasing results. The production team Ben, Claire and Adam must be proud.
