Northallerton brought back the well known Golden Oldie Carousel, last produced in 1990. It got off to a good start with the Prologue including four Carousel Horses and the dancers riding them.
There were many outstanding performances; Maria Richardson was excellent playing Julie Jordan, with a loverly stage presence and singing voice; Billy Bigelow was played by Dean Heslop and he was outstanding playing a very strong part; Mrs Mullins, was very well played by Janet Miles.
Julie's friend, Carrie Pipperidge, was very well played by newcomer to the society, Kim Boagey, who will be a great asset to the company. Taking the part of Mr Enoch Snow at very short notice was Steven Berry and with his strong singing voice and acting was excellent.
Andrea Atkinson was superb playing 'Nettie Fowler' and was perfectly at home in the part.
Playing, imy my opinion, his best part to date was 17yr old Ben Laws-Williams as the shiftless sailor, Jigger Craigin - and how well he performed. Eleanor Reynolds was excellent playing Lousie and her ballet scene was very good . Other small partrs were played by Basil Bosomworth as David Bascombe. Martin Holdsworth played several small parts very well indeed. Roger Kiddle played the Star Keeper and Dr Seldon very confidently as usual. The Policemen were played by David Ferry and Lewis Wilde whilst Joseph Parkes-Hatley was very good as Enoch Snow Junior.
Indeed the Snow chidren were well played by Evie Cooke, India Hindmarch, Hannah Kendrew, Eilidh McMillan, Ayla Porter and Brooke Porter.
The Chorus, as always, was strong in all their numbers. Nic Jenkins did a first class job of the choreography/stage movement and never once did the stage look over crowded, The sets were adequate and the stage crewdid a first class job in the settings. The sound was very well controlled and everyone was heard perfectly. The Orchestra was under complete control by Trevor Wison in his directing both Orchestra and the company was excellent never were the singers unheard. The capacity audiences really enjoyed this well known musical. It was ndeed a great evenings entertainment and well done Northallerton.
