The colourful and and unusually intimate opening to the show worked perfectly, setting the scene through music and mime. The feisty Mrs Mullen 'Rosie Isles' made her mark from the start showing great strength of character with excellent diction. The leading roles of Julie and Billy were excellently portrayed by 'Siobhan O'Connor' and 'Andrew Twigg'. They both created some wonderful highlights throughout the evening. Their introduction scene with the song "If I loved You! felt so comfortable and during solos, "What's The Use of Wond'rin'" and "Billy's Soliloquy", they proved how well they were suited to their role. The partnership between Carrie, 'Jackie Beckett' and Mr Snow, 'Stewart Cameron' was inspired. They worked so well together and equally as individuals embracing their charismatic roles. Their song, "When the Children Are Asleep" was a pure treat, while both their solo songs raised smiles and laughter from the audience. Nettie was in the very capable hands of 'Lindsey Nurney', whose experience shone throughout. Her song, June is "Bustin' Out All Over", made for a really lively company number and "You'll Never walk Alone" created an atmospheric and touching scene. Jigger, 'Alex Rankine' was suitably shady and aggressive but he also led a very hearty "Blow High, Blow Low" and "Stonecutters Cut It On Stone". Two very competent young ladies 'Rhona Marshall' and 'Melissa Wyllie' shared the role of Louise during the week and were surrounded by a lovely and enthusiastic group of children who definitely had the 'awe' factor. Well done to 'Kieran Flood' who also shone as Enoch Jnr. It's always a lovely, welcoming and entertaining experience visiting Dumfries. Once again, congratulations!
