It is always good to see a good “Who Done It” and this one was both Agatha Christie and Phoenix Players at their best.

This play revolves around a game of bridge when Mr. Shaitana, the host, gets murdered. Although only a smallish part and only on for the first scene, Steve Wilson was able to make an impact on the audience with good acting and an almost perfect accent which was called for in this part.

The main action is then around the investigation of this murder and was led by Supt. Battle played to perfection by Mark Hague, this was indeed a very “wordy” part but Mark was able to put his own stamp on it and excelled in every way.

Cards on the Table requires a large cast, 13 in total and I have to say there were no weak links in any of the characters who although too numerous to mention all were worthy of the applause they received both at the end and throughout.

It would be wrong of me not to mention Sue Martin as Mrs. Oliver who is a crime writer and amateur sleuth. Sue was great in this part which she made into a sort of Margaret Rutherford type of lady.

Maria Taylor is also worth a mention as the apparently prim and proper Miss. Burgess who is not quite as we first thought; Maria played this part well and gave a very convincing performance.

This play calls for not one but two murders, the second being that of Mrs. Lorrimer played by Gloria Elford-Box who was perfect in every way.

Many congratulations to all involved in this production.
