‘The Lighthouse’ proved a fitting new venue as the company made a return to its home ground in Carluke. With the aptly titled “CAOS in Concert”, the evening delivered exactly that in what was an energetic, varied, and highly entertaining night of musical theatre. In opening with the rousing “The Greatest Show” and shifting swiftly into “It’s Raining Men”, the well-structured three-act programme showcased a wide range of musical numbers from both classic and contemporary shows. The selection was thoughtfully planned to appeal to a diverse audience, offering something for every age and taste. The concert radiated energy and musicality, with a host of solo and ensemble performances too numerous to name individually. Whether in full company numbers or smaller groupings, the vocal performances were well-rehearsed and confidently delivered. The cast was superbly supported by a tight, well-balanced live band under the baton of Chris Bensalem. Visually, the show was equally impressive. Creative lighting effects enhanced the mood and transitions throughout, contributing to the concert’s flow. Co-producers Lynzi Walker and Alistair Morton are to be applauded for their artistic vision, while Megan Daly, in her debut as choreographer, made an excellent first impression. Her clever and efficient use of the limited performance space helped transform the venue into an engaging cabaret-style setting. The evening concluded on a high note with two emotionally resonant numbers: “You Will Be Found” from Dear Evan Hansen and “Raise You Up / Just Be” from Kinky Boots which was a fitting and uplifting finale. This was a confident and accomplished concert from a talented society. A clear winner and a proud homecoming performance for CAOS.
