I saw the town production of ‘Canterbury Tales’ back in 2008 which had a cast of so many, I was surprised and as it proved pleasantly surprised to see just a cast of 9 playing 35 characters. Not to single out anyone but Amber Marwood, Becky Spiegl-Watson, Bryn Marwood, Ian Moss, John McKenzie, Matt Smith, Robin Poole, Ross Cryer and Sue Twilley did a great job and between them played 3 or 4 characters each. The stage sets and costumes were very good and the various tales were told with great diction, energy and enthusiasm and captured the comedy and humour very well. There were some great characterizations and very strong performances throughout with the additional participation of a couple of audience members.

Martin Riley’s adaptation gave an up to date understanding of the dialogue. There were lots of laughs in this production and the cast worked extremely hard. It is such a pity there were not more in the audience. Well done LTC and thank you for the invitation. I had an enjoyable evening.
