The Anderson/Doig collaboration, proved, once more, that an exciting concert programme does not have to comprise songs solely from the top ten musicals. Instead, thirty-seven numbers were chosen from shows such as Gigi, La Perichole, and No, No Nanette, suitably interspersed with lively numbers from the more frequently performed musicals.
CAMS is extremely lucky to be able to showcase a wealth of talent from the twenty-five cast on stage – nearly all of whom made themselves known with either a solo or concerted number. Two and a half hours passed before we noticed it thanks to a well-rehearsed concert, thoughtfully directed – both artistically and musically.
Sound operation must also be complimented – clear and a good level throughout, especially when competing with only a keyboard and drum kit in the pit.
I have refrained from naming names in this review, since to be fair to everyone, I would have had to name the whole cast – such was the quality of the concert.
Giving CAMS a well-deserved break on two occasions during the Concert was the annual appearance of the Friends of St Columba’s Choir whose ever increasing numbers added more variety to an already packed programme.
Well done again CAMS, and thank you for allowing me to present six NODA Long Service Awards (including a fifty-five year pin!) after the show.
