One of the key features when reporting on a Cupar AMS Concert is that you will be assured of a well balanced programme of selections both new and not-so-new. Another of these key features is that soloists include both company stalwarts and those who are standing there singing solos for the very first time. The third key feature is that all the singers are so good, you cannot tell the difference between the stalwarts and the first timers!

I do not intent to mention soloists by name, instead I will mention just a few of the numbers which stuck with me that evening. In the first Act, “The One Feather Tail of Miss Gertrude McFuzz”, “The Hippopotamus Song” and “Doin’ What Comes Naturally” are all favourites of mine, and these, coupled with the act one closing number “The Rhythm of Life” made for a most enjoyable first half. We were also treated to three numbers sung by the combined voices of the Cupar Youth Music Theatre, just to ensure us that there will be excellent singers to fill roles in the adult company in years to come.

The second act was no less adventurous in its compilation of, as they well describe, “Showstoppers”.   Again, for me “This is the Moment” from Jekyll and Hyde stood out as probably my favourite number of the evening.

The cast were neatly costumed in both acts. The first being in block coloured shirts/blouses and the second in their CAMS branded polo shirts – all adding to the excellent presentation of the show.

Both lighting and sound were well operated.

So, if you want to hear the quality of CAMS’ singers, together with a varied programme of music to suit all tastes, I suggest you make every effort to see their concert next year.

Thank you CAMS for your invite to this year’s Concert, and allowing me the privilege of presenting a number of Long Service Awards!
