CAMP’s 25th Anniversary Extravaganza Cabaret was a fantastic night of Musical Theatre, bringing together timeless songs from some of the most well-loved shows in the group’s history, in a true celebration of Community Arts. Held at the Cumnock Town Hall, the hall was packed with a supportive and enthusiastic audience eager to relive the magic of these classic productions.
The concert showcased a large live orchestra, and a diverse lineup of performances, each paying homage to some of the club’s favourite shows including "Anything Goes", "South Pacific", "Sister Act the Musical", "The King and I", and "The Sound of Music". The full cast was made up over different sections, choirs and age ranges delivered energetic and heartfelt renditions. There were excellent vocals as a group and from soloists particularly in the "Little Shop of Horror" and "Sister Act the Musical" sections, I particularly loved the arrangement of the song “Sister Act”. There was a beautiful rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" along with a Wizard of Oz selection from the younger cast. The younger cast certainly enchanted the audience and them featuring in “Getting to Know You” from "The King and I" was a joy. The choral singing was excellent, and the adult cast brought down the house with spirited performances in numbers such as "Spread the Love", "Timeless to Me", and "You Can't Stop the Beat" from Hairspray, infusing the stage with vibrancy and joy. Dale in his housecoat was something to remember … I am still looking for a loan of it!! There were so many standout performances, too many to list, so a huge well done to all involved with the show on stage. I would also like to give mention to some of the key workers behind the scenes; Producer: Dale Parker, Director: Steven Swan, CYMT Director/s: Thea Slimmon, Olivia Dumigan and Cameron Maxwell, Musical Director: Dale Parker and Gregor Keachie, Choral Director: Andy McTaggart, Lighting Technician: Josh Dempsey, Sound Technician: David Simpson, Sound Assistant: Cameron Doole, Stage Manager: Sylvia Doole, Supervision: Lynne Holmes, Front of House Manager: Catrina Heggie, Front of House Ushers: Ann Nairn, Maggie Broadley.
This 25th Anniversary Cabaret was a resounding success, filled with memorable performances and a shared love for musical theatre and it served as a reminder of the power of music and storytelling to unite the community across generations. Here’s to many more years to come for Cumnock Arts Makes People Smile … just the best name!!
