Thank you for inviting Phyllis and I to your production of Calendar Girls, the Musical, and for your generous hospitality.
On entering the theatre, the set from Scenic Projects looked very atmospheric and proved simple in its design, allowing for swift and efficient scene changes.
The scenes were enhanced by the use of furniture and props, moved by cast members and stagecrew dressed as cast members. The lighting was generally good, as was the sound.
All the main principals gave very strong portrayals of their respective characters. This is predominantly a female show, there wasn’t a weak link in the whole team.
The scene of the photo shoot for the Calendar was very funny, the comic timing was excellent.
Rachel Lucy gave an outstanding performance in the role of Annie, the singing of all her numbers, particularly, Scarborough and Kilimanjaro were terrific and very moving.
Louise Marshall in the role of Chris had excellent comic timing, her rapport with Annie and husband Rod, well played by Steve Carrick and her son Danny was superb, her diction was always good which is especially important in a comedic role.
Neil Hastings as John gave a good performance managing to bring out the humour of the character, whilst making the audience feel sorry for him.
Tom Lowes as Tommo and Callum Woodall both played their respective roles very well.
Hannah Taylor as Jenny, the wild drinking teenager gave a very strong performance and the singing of all her numbers was excellent.
This was an outstanding production and all the company must be congratulated, especially Sharon Bell for the directing and staging her first production with the society.
Very well done to everyone.
The standing ovation at the Finale was very well earned.
