This fine play must surely now hold a record for performance around the country.  Against the odds the ladies of the WI decide to raise enough money for a settee for the relatives’ room, with a result that exceeded their wildest dreams – a hospital wing to house the settee!  After seeing four high quality performances I am still filled with emotion and at the same time much laughter.  CODS interpretation was no exception, well cast and directed by newcomer Louisa. Designed by Derek Moore, the fine Knapeley Church Hall set had the added dimension of a vestibule, where Lawrence played by Simon Tomlinson, waited nervously before the naughty calendar photo shoot scene.  The array of properties collected were quietly and quickly placed and removed by the backstage crew.  A colourful Cora played by Alison Withey-Harrison, using her musical talent led a marvellous harmonised rendition of Jerusalem.  Each cast member crafted their individual character, with leads, the mild Annie Clarke played by Jo Levett and her  more pushy friend Chris played by Jo Reader, very strong indeed. Lovable Yorkshire man, the dying John Clarke was sympathetically portrayed by Glyn Roberts who was also responsible for the special musical arrangements. John’s green hill was set with blooming golden sunflowers, a glorious sky effect, a picture resulting in a truly moving experience.
