I wondered how a film featuring such spectacular scenery would transfer to the stage and I remember having the same concerns when I went to see South Pacific on stage after seeing the film. On both counts I needn’t have worried. The society is one of the first in the country to perform the play after its release for amateur productions and they certainly grasped the challenge with both hands. It is a very well crafted play with plenty of opportunities for some clever comedy moments to lift the audience in between the pathos and tragedy as the story unfolds.
It is impossible to single out any of the performers as the casting was ideal with every performer playing their character extremely well. Julie Hunter should be congratulated on ensuring that the pace of the action was maintained and that there was a good balance between the sadness and humour.
There was a good solid set which together with some excellent lighting and sound made for an excellent evening’s entertainment. Well done to all involved in this successful production!
