It has been 10 years since the Society last had the Stage Coach ‘a-rollin' on over the plains’ into Deadwood and the selection of this show proved be popular again playing to full houses. In the title role, Shiranne Burns displayed great attack throughout her performance as the ‘hard-bitten, gun-totin', Calam with Ray O’Sullivan confidently portraying the part of Wild Bill Hickock. Christopher Morris was perfectly cast at Lieutenant Danny Gilmartin, nicely partnered with Louise Barry who made a fine Katie Brown, both delighting the audience with their duet, ‘Love You Dearly’. Robert Kirkham made a suitably anxious Henry Miller appearing at times one jump ahead of a nervous breakdown. Carol Lee captured the role as the conceited Adelaide Adams and Gary Young provided some amusement as Francis Fryer. The production was bright and colourful with a well balanced orchestra, good singing and dance routines. Coupled with Fain and Webster’s great songs including The Deadwood Stage, The Black Hills of Dakota, Windy City and Secret Love, this was no surprise the Society was on to a winner.
