Calamity Jane

It has been a real pleasure to visit The Star Hall to see the Tingdene Entertainers latest production of “Calamity Jane”, a show that I have not seen for many years. “Calamity Jane” is a musical packed full of fun with lots of well known tunes and is always sure to be an audience pleaser. First time director, Cam Conway has done an excellent job with some very good staging and casting; I am sure he will go on to direct many more productions. Well done to Duncan Balcon for the very good musical direction and to his first-class orchestra. Choreographer, Georgia Westley made sure the company were all well-rehearsed with some very slick dance routines. There were very good performances from all the cast. The title role of Calamity Jane was played by Amy Ford who really got into the character of the role and was delightful to watch. Andrew Tidbury was a great Wild Bill Hickoch with a fine voice too. Chris Thirlwell was an imposing Lieutenant Danny Gillmartin and gave a strong performance. Holly Lowe was a lovely, confident Katie Brown. David Wicks was excellent as Henry Miller and played the role with enthusiasm. Izzy Brown as Susan and Reece Yarnold as Francis Fryer both gave performances that I felt showed a great deal of promise. Georgia Westley was a very confidant Adelaide Adams. Martin Peck as Rattlesnake, Brian Heathcote as Doc Pierce, Bradley Westley as Joe, Harry Brown as Hank and Liam Standing as Pete all gave very noteworthy performances too. The cast was ably supported by an excellent and hardworking ensemble. Well done to the entire company!
The sets for the show were very good and well-made as were all the props. The costumes were excellent and were of a very high standard. The lighting and sound quality was mostly very good, with just a few little hic-ups. Congratulations to all at Tingdene Entertainers for this very enjoyable and highly entertaining evening!
