The Deadwood stage definitely rode in to Cannock and what a 'whip crack away' night we had.  From start to finish this Sharron Burns production was full of enthusiasm and fun.

Ellen Nicholls was a wonderful Calamity Jane.  Great acting and a wonderful voice. She was well suited with Darrell Burns was Wild Bill Hickock.   His rendition of ‘Higher than a Hawk’ was a joy to listen to.  Another great pairing came from Emily Chambers as Katie Brown and Roger Rowlands as Danny Gilmartin.  Francis Fryer (with an I) was played well by Andy Nicholls as was Henry Miller played by Roger Thackham.  It was a shame that there was some mic trouble when Katie was singing 'Keep it under your Hat', but this did not mar the overall enjoyment of the performance.

Brian Hirst conducted a good sounding orchestra and the choreography worked really well on this stage.  Speaking of the stage the company really made good use of the stage and floor in front of the orchestra.  This area was used as the 'Golden Garter' Saloon and the stage was the stage in the saloon.

The Chorus sang well and 'The Black Hills of Dakota' had everyone singing along  Some nice harmonies.

Costumes looked good and the set shone under the lighting.

This was a very enjoyable production with great songs that, this sell out audience, including myself, were singing along to.
