For it’s 30th Anniversary production this group of talented 8-18 years olds picked this perennial favourite. The cast of some 40 youngsters put their hearts and soles into the performance and gave the audience a most enjoyable evening. Robert Hodgins (in the title role Bugsy Malone) gave an excellent performance and was equally matched by Emily Grant (Blousey Brown) as his love interest. Rebecca McCall (caretaker Fizzy) gave a heartfelt rendition of the song “Tomorrow” in which she expresses her longing to be a performer. Strong support was given by Dylan Shearer (Fat Sam) and Hannah Jarvie (Dandy Dan) as the rival mob leaders and Shelly Cunnigham (Tallulah) as the gangster’s moll with a heart. Dances, especially those by the troupe of showgirls, were well carried out. The 7 piece band sounded good, was well controlled and never overpowered the young voices which can sometimes happen. With a simple but effective multi-levelled set and appropriate costumes the production also looked good. Congratulations to all at Giz Giz for the production and for their 30th Anniversary. Here’s to the next 30!
