This was a very slick and well dressed production by Young HATS and the whole cast put their hearts and souls into this really excellent entertainment. The story was very well told by Bugsy himself, played effortlessly by Oliver Stevens - a great character. Hattie Pemberton played Blousey Brown, a girl who could really act and sing in the story and, I am, sure in everything she does on stage. Fat Sam, played by Alexander Stevens was the true gangster type with his cohort of hoods and Dandy Dan (played by Ben Wylie) was Fat Sam's antagonist - quite a different type of gangster, really enjoying the best things in life. Gemma Manktelow playing Tallulah was another excellent performer as was Ruby Thomas as Fizzy, always waiting for the audition that never seemed to come. Every one of the cast had a named part of their own (and some had two or three) and everyone on stage (and off it at times as the whole hall was used for some of the exits and entrances) worked in a very professional manner. The Band, led by Michael Cullen on keyboards made a super sound and never overpowered the youngsters. Good choreography and movement and the splurge guns and custard pies were used in excellent fashion! A really good set and thanks must go to the whole production team for giving these talented youngsters a real chance to shine.
