Boogie Nights is a feel good show which takes 1970's music, a fairly predictable plot and allows the cast to have fun with it. Roddy, played by Steve Thornhill had a nice way with him – his dream of being a rock star. His girlfriend Debs (Hannah Storey) enduring his roving eye and played this role with great feeling. His best mates, Terry and Dean were played by Matthew O'Connor and James Price. Mathew's rendition of “Sugar Baby Love” was well executed and during the whole production he played the part of Terry with great expression and conviction. Shannon Whetnall as Trish, Terry's girlfriend, was excellent, singing, dancing and acting. Her two numbers in the Disco - “I Lost My Heart to a Starship Trooper” and “Disco Inferno” were faultless. Anthony Clowes played Spencer for laughs, which worked well until he had to play the baddie to his girlfriend Lorraine played and sung well by Vicki Kimpton. I especially liked “Enough is Enough” and “Last Dance/Reach Out”. Barry Simpson was well cast as Eamon, Roddy's Dad. His love of Elvis – doing a great impersonation - and drinking ways made his relationship with his son fraught which was portrayed well. All the other roles were well cast and the whole company kept the character of the period throughout the show This was a bright, energetic production, with good dance routines, and costumes which suited the period.
