I have seen the musical version of Blood Brothers on many occasions but this was the first time I had seen the play and I was intrigued to see it on stage without music.
No disappointment here. First class acting from a very talented cast. The story was beautifully interpreted. The audience were enthralled by this production and there was no sweetie paper rustling or shuffling. Everyone, including me, was totally caught up with the action from the stage.
A very clever set. A typical street of terraced houses with a yard,a brick wall and an entry. The brick wall opened to reveal the more upmarket house of the Lyons family and it clearly demonstrated the contrast in the circumstances of the families. Good props and full marks to the team for the timing of the final gunshots. It was impeccable. Good lighting and sound.
The acting was first class. Robert Newton and Adam Worton as the twins torn apart by circumstances. Sam Allen as the down-trodden Mrs. Johnstone completely dominated by her employer. Christine Peak as Mrs Johnstone the employer who went from completed domination to paranoia when she realised that the twins had found each other. These four actors worked together in harmony, never over-acted and held the audience in the grip of the story.
They were well supported by Natalie Webster (Linda), David Thane (Narrator) and the various supporting roles played by Aaron Armstrong-Craddock, Christopher Waters, Natalie Colen, Liam Matthews-Dibbins, Grant Thompson and Sarah Richards. They presented strong characters in all the small parts and enhanced this very well cast and performed play.
