BLITHE SPIRIT

What an excellent performance of Noel Coward’s classic comedy this was.

The very talented cast played their parts extremely well. Seb Coombe was brilliant as author Charles Condomine he commanded the stage from start to finish, He was very well supported by Sarah Waters, playing his second wife Ruth, Jason Munn and Carolyn Mooney, playing Doctor and Mrs Bradman, were dinner guests of the Condomines, and Karen Frizzle, playing her first role with the company was a very good incompetent maid.Special mention must go to Sarah Coyle, playing the ghost of Charles’s first wife. How difficult it is to play a major lead in a performance, but be inconspicuous at the same time, she did it with aplomb. Finally, to complete the cast, there was a totally amazing performance from Caroline Robertson, playing ‘nutty as a fruit cake’ medium, hired by Charles to perform an after dinner séance for the family and guests. If ever a part has to be played way over the top, this is it, and Caroline performed it wonderfully well.

The audience were treated to some very funny situations between Charles, Ruth and Elvira, and these became even funnier when second wife Ruth passed over, and Charles had to deal with both spirits. The two ghosts were eventually sent back  to the other side by Madame Arcati, using her famous Sudbury case to do so. Unfortunately the procedure unleashed a poltergeist in the house and the special effects of the poltergeist’s performance was outstanding, pictures flying off walls, books off shelves, a mirror hinged and opening and the lounge chandelier falling and almost maiming everyone near.

What else can one say about this amazing performance??. The set was superb, the lighting and sound were very good. A very very good all round performance by everyone concerned, and a brilliant evenings entertainment.Thankyou.
