A classic that always appeals to players and audiences. Firstly to speak of the very excellent set, both in the construction and the dressings, but even more so in the destruction in the final moments. And to congratulate all on their attention to detail and feel of period in all aspects from music to properties, through the style of dialogue, and the general manner of the piece. Very well cast for all characters: Edith (Leanne Neave) worked well with the speed changes and imperfections; an excellent Ruth from Tabi Paternoster, a strong no nonsense person and good hostess changed by the circumstances into someone with neurotic tendencies and worries. Opposite her in the fight for Charles, Justine Kerry had a wonderful time as Elvira, the character just got better as she developed the role with her comments and teasing and purpose. And between them, trying to hold them apart, Alan Carpenter had the strength and weakness as Charles to dominate throughout in the struggle between these two wives, and what a great role he played. The supporting roles of the guests, the Bradmans (Martin Drummond and Marianne London) were the foils to the ensuing situations and dialogues. And the role that is wanted by so many, Madam Arcati played by Georgette Vale, very eccentric, so flamboyant, so watchable, over the top, the trances were great, a really good characterisation, and all resolved in the finish. A most entertaining evening enjoyed by nearly full houses, well up to the standard now expected from the Players, David Paternoster did well to bring out so much in the production, and the Company should feel proud of this play.
