I have to admit I have never seen a full episode of Blackadder but judging by the performances I have seen tonight it looks like I have been missing a big treat.
Here we had three different episodes of the popular TV series, Bells, Money and Beer and in all of them we had an extremely talented Simon Raffo as Lord Edmund Blackadder, Simon was perfect and when you consider he had taken over this part with very short notice even more credit must be given to him, well done Simon.
Once again showing off his comedic timings we had Lee Sanderson, I don’t think I have seen Lee give a bad or even mediocre performance and here he was once again on top form in this part playing the foyle of Lord Percy to Blackadder, completing the trio we had Barry Judd as the lovable Baldrick who seems to always get it wrong and ends up as the whipping boy to his master Blackadder. Barry was also perfect in this part and was immediately loved by the whole audience.
Also adding to the comedy of this piece we had Rebecca Coupe as Queen Elizabeth 1, Sue Martin as Nursie and Daniel Wight as Lord Melchett who periodically “popped up” when Lord Blackadder had been summoned to Her Majesty, each time being given almost impossible tasks much to the delight of HM whose giggles were very infectious and caused who whole audience to giggle along side of her.
There were many parts in the three episodes performed in this show and everyone played their parts to the full without a single weak link, needless to say the almost capacity audience on the night I was there were, I suspect, all huge Blackadder fans and judging by the laughter and applause not one person was disappointed in any performance.
Many congratulations to all involved in this production especially to Neil Mather as Director.
