Thurrock Courts Players are at their best when doing this type of play.  Their members have an uncanny knack of recreating the well-loved characters seen on television and this makes these plays so enjoyable.

I am not a fan of the Blackadder series but I did appreciate the script writing and the interpretation by the cast.  The audience were clearly fans of the shows and the comments and reactions, from them, made it clear that they were enjoying the performance.

I must admit, when I read the list of scenes in the programme, I was a bit taken aback.  Three acts of 12 scenes in each was a lot to contemplate.  However many of them were very short indeed and the way Director Luke Coldham had adapted the published scripts made it flow very well.

Wayne Prince (Blackadder) delivered exactly the characterisation we wanted to see and Dave Carey was simply……Baldrick.  His characterisation was masterful and a complete joy to watch.  Luke Coldham played Flasheart and it is clear that he is a fan as his characterisation was spot on.  Martyun Williams (George) and Mike Jones (Melchett) completed the main principals.

However it would not be fair to limit my comments to these principals as every single performer on stage produced well observed characters and the whole company performed outstandingly well.

I think everyone knows that I am a huge fan of Paul Lazell’s scenery but he really surpassed himself with this set.  Absolutely beautiful!

The costumes were also terrific, completely in period and they added to the overall enjoyment of the spectacle.

I thoroughly enjoyed the show as did the audience, judging from the comments as we left the auditorium.  Another triumph for Thurrock Courts Players, well done.
