Murton TG chose to present a concert to celebrate their 90th anniversary, and what a fitting way it was to honour the members and productions both past and present.
The programme contained something for every taste in musical theatre genre and gave every one of the 42 strong cast a chance to shine. Accompaniment was provided by the superb “Vivo Swing Band”, and the company both sang and danced their way through a programme of 38 musical numbers. Unfortunately there was an issue with sound balance in a couple of numbers where the performers couldn’t be heard very well, but this didn’t affect the overall enjoyment of the production. The company were well dressed and the simple staging arrangement with the band on stage worked well. The dance numbers as well as the full company movement were very well done and entertaining to watch.
It is difficult to single out individual performances in a production such as this where everyone shone and gave a polished presentation, but I want to make special mention of the youth section of the society who gave superb performances; I particularly enjoyed their “Revolting Children” number from “Matilda”. My personal favourites from the rest of the programme included “Anything But You” (Martyn Banks & Erin Vardy), “Wicked” selection (Matthew Rankcom, Gabrielle Fletcher, Kelsey Douglas and company), ”Dangerous Game” (Andy Oliver & Debbie Taylor-Smith), ”Way Ahead of My Time” (Matthew Rankcom), ”Ladies Who Lunch”(June Carter, Christine Ward, Carole Young, Anne Malpass), “Billy Elliot” selection (the company) and ”Being Alive” (Gemma Hutchinson, Matthew Rankcom, Kelsey Douglas & Joe Wilson).
Congratulations to the production team and cast for a very enjoyable evening, and best wishes for your next 90 years.
