Kidderminster Operatic & Dramatic Society – Bedroom Farce
A talented cast of eight performed this Ayckbourn farce, skilfully directed by John Jones, delighted the audience bringing laughter and enjoyment in these austere times. The synopsis was short and succinct - 4 couples, 3 bedrooms, 1 unforgettable night - said it all. The excellent set designed by Kevin Rutland with three bedrooms side by side and each was lit singly when the action was taking place in a particular bedroom while the other two bedrooms were in darkness. This called for superb lighting dexterity which was excellently controlled by Lighting & Sound engineer Neil Chamberlain and his assistant Alison Johnston. Having seen many Ayckbourn plays I don’t find his scripts particularly funny and to my mind the success depends greatly on the situations and performance of the players and the staging of the play. Here the four couples were very well matched and extracted what humour there was in the script and considerably enhanced it by their excellent performances. This was another feather in KODS list of successes.
