For this year’s annual panto, Harlequin turned to Alan McHugh to write the script and this is the fourth successive year he has done so. The production team was therefore assured of good and suitable material for the young players. Pantomime is a traditional medium which requires specific treatment and understanding and that was provided for in good measure at Eastwood Theatre. Maximum age for the cast is 21 years so a few principals were making their last appearances. These included Glenn Allan making his last appearance as Monsieur Atiseau after nine years in the Company, Alex Watston as the Marqis de Neuchateau and Andy Black as Michel. However, the others are staying and those departing will no doubt go on to do other shows in the area or elsewhere. Supporting the principal cast was a chorus of just under fifty players of varying ages but each with a clear idea of their individual part in the show. I did not see anyone coming out of character, losing concentration or not knowing the words. The show was of a high standard as one would expect with Harlequin and I look forward to future shows at Eastwood.
