Using a very good set, the players performed this pantomime written by Colleen Pratt to the best of their ability, and the local following lapped it up. The mainly young entertainers showed great enthusiasm that helped to add to the atmosphere.
There were some very good performances particularly by Belle, played and sung most confidently by Hannah Langley-Fogg, who was ably supported by Becky Smith as the Beast. Fairies Poubelle, Becci Cogley, and Bluebell, Helen Roebuck, got the appropriate cheers and boos, and I liked the two baby fairies played by Isla Powell and Violet Gornall. Good comedy content came from Chloe Hubbard as Izzy Bisteaux and Edith Burton as Wizzy Bisteaux. Lily Gornall as Dame Margaret, and Colleen Pratt as P.C. Jean D`Arme also gave good support.
The dance troupe enhanced the show greatly with their lively routines and lovely costumes.
I felt at times the vocals were not very strong and the production needed to speed up, but it was first night and I am sure the hiccups will be cured. It is impressive to read that the Players have donated over £19000 to local children`s charities over the past 15 years, a record to be proud of.
