When you see the title Beauty and the Beast you immediately think of the Disney cartoon and the live action movie. This was not Disney but was a very slick and enjoyable production. The set and costumes were beautiful and helped bring the pantomime to life.
The cast and chorus were very strong and performed the choreography, created by Emily Twigg, very well. The music kept the toes tapping and were well performed by the band.
As always it is wonderful to see a mixture of ages on the stage and the emergence of talent coming through the ranks of the society. It was lovely to see Hannah Pyne in her first role with the society playing Beauty. I loved Jon Stacey’s (who played Ma) dance moves in the ‘Material Girl’ number and his costume in the finale.
Stephanie Austwick, who played Malabelle got the boos her character deserved, and I loved her doggy outfit and also her silver shiny shoes. All the other roles, especially the furniture, were well performed; I loved the Talking Clock played by Mia Field.
It was lovely to see 3 of the young members receiving NODA Youth Awards. Thank you for inviting me and for a very enjoyable evening.
