Written by American playwright Sam Brobrick, Emley successfully set the play in Leeds.

A comedy with some serious moments, it provides an entertaining evening for the audience. When Phyllis finds her airline luggage has been mixed with Bradley’s and they meet for the first time to exchange suitcases, it is the start of an on/off relationship lasting until the final curtain.

Initially Dr Alexander, (with degrees in psychology from a multitude of universities!) comments on their struggles from an off stage position. As they begin to upset his theories he becomes more personally involved, providing much of the comedy with his eccentricity. A further eccentric and colourful character is Phyllis’ best friend Mitzi, expressing her own views on the relationship.

A small cast requires players with experience and Heather Boulby (Phyllis), Gary Wilkinson (Bradley), David Smith (Dr. Alexander) and Karen Kirkup (Mitzi) certainly had this. Heather and Gary confidently portrayed the lack of confidence deep down in the personalities of Phyllis and Bradley while David and Karen revelled in their offbeat characters. As Director Karen once again made the best use of their small stage. Well done everyone.
